The first chakra is our Source, the door to our conception, our umbilical cord to Mother Earth. The snake is the power of undulation, transformation, and renewal and the movement of energy through the body. The dragon is the fulfillment of power in its most dynamic form, breathing the fire of life as it soars between heaven and earth. The snake and dragon are both masculine and feminine.

In the ancient Goddess religions, the oracles of Delphi and Eleusis associated the serpent’s bite (a metaphor for sexual penetration) with the awakening of clairvoyance and mystical insight. Hence lovemaking was honored as a sacred path to wisdom and revelation, a form of communion with the Goddess, the Mother of Creation.
